Reserve sows are fed with growth and breeding pig feed before 60 kilograms, and then specialized reserve sow feed is fed from 60-70 kilograms. Free feeding is adopted until around 100 kilograms, and limited feeding is adopted after 100 kilograms. The daily feeding amount is generally 2 kilograms per head. Reserve sows should increase their feeding amount from 2KG to 4KG about 10-14 days before mating in the second or third estrus. Short term optimal feeding during this stage is important for the development and maturation of follicles. Ensure that the reserve pigs reach a weight of 130-140kg between 210-240 days of age before participating in breeding.
Generally speaking, 0-3 days after mating, sows are not interested in feed due to the persistence of estrus, and excessive feeding during this stage can cause certain waste. From the third day after breeding, the feeding amount is adjusted to 1-2kg per day to the seventh day. Because the corpus luteum has not been fully formed at this stage, it is not suitable to feed more. However, for sows that are particularly thin in the empty pregnancy period, the feeding amount can be increased to 2.5-3.0kg from the the fourth day of pregnancy.
